Abstract

Andrea Villafiorita Monteleone:
The Cooperation of Mary in Redemption:
status quaestionis of the Recent Discussion
(FKTh 2013-1, p. 22–36)

The recent discussion on the cooperation of Mary in redemption starts with a petition of the movement Vox Populi Mariae Mediatrici to proclaim a “fifth Marian dogma”, with the three titles “Coredemptrix, Mediatrix of all Graces and Advocate”. Confronted with this initiative, the mariologists take two different positions: at one side, there are the theorists of Coredemption, which underline an immediate cooperation of Mary in objective redemption; at the other side, the “position of salvific history” tends towards a biblical narrative theology and does not use a clear scholastic terminology. Here we see especially two problems: methodology (the hermeneutics of Vatican II) and ecumenism. A deepened intellectual work is necessary, which studies the systematical topic of the mediation of Mary in Christ.
