Abstract

Imre von Gaál:
The Christocentric Shift
An Evaluation of the Theological Merits of the Pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI.
(FKTh 2013-3, p. 161–176)

In view of its numerous achievements, it difficult to summarize the theological achievements of Pope Benedict’s pontificate. Yet, already now one may state that it inaugurated a “Christocentric Shift.” This has several components: a deepening of liturgical renewal as envisioned by Guardini and the II. Vatican Council, as well as contextualizing historical-critical exegesis within “canonical exegesis” and the Church Fathers. From this his genuine ecumenical concerns arise. Within the ductus of Ressourcement theology it is his concern to revalorize Christian faith in the figure of Jesus Christ.
