Abstract
John Corbett:
Recent Proposals for the Pastoral Care of the Divorced and Remarried:
A Theological Assessment
(FKTh 2014-3, p. 160–185)
A Dominican-led group of eight theologians released an extended theological analysis of recent proposals of Walter Cardinal Kasper regarding the pastoral care of divorced and remarried persons. The document was originally published in the English edition of Nova et Vetera, and is currently available in German in this magazine. In anticipation of the upcoming extraordinary Synod on the Family, these Catholic theologians – faithful to the Church’s Magisterium – responded to some recent suggestions for changes in Catholic pastoral practice on divorce, remarriage, and communion. Of special note is their defence of the Church’s teaching on the indissolubility of marriage and the possibility of chastity.
