What is the specific mission of Christians in the world? What distinguishes them from other people? Based on various sermons of John Henry Newman, this article shows that Christians are called to glorify God in their daily work, to not conform their way of thinking and believing to the spirit of the world and to have their hearts fixed on heaven, on Jesus Christ, who even now gives them lasting joy. These essential features of Christianity are of great importance in our time which is so focused on transient earthly things.
