Abstract

Manfred Hauke:
Mary as Mother and Prophetess of Mercy
(FKTh 2016-4, p. 241–270)

The topic of Mary’s mercy is rooted in the Holy Scripture. It appears in many ways during the history of theology and in popular devotion. The systematic presentation shows Mary first in her reception of divine mercy and as its prophetess in the Magnificat. By her cooperation with the grace received from God, she becomes »Mother« and »Queen« of mercy. Justice and mercy reveal themselves in the right proportion. Maria is a female image of divine mercy and a »mirror of Holy Trinity«. She lives mercy as type and mother of the Church. She gives an example for the works of mercy which lead to the response of confident prayer.
