Abstract

Johannes Nebel:
The Significance of Fatima for the Church
(FKTh 2017-4, p. 261–286)

The Fatima event finds its theological place among the private revelations recognized by the Church. Its outstanding meaning is perceived in emphasis on the message which is addressed to the whole Church amidst the global situation of our age. This is presented by means of the official ecclesiastical reception of Fatima by the popes without concealing some vacillations or not yet fully implemented elements. The call of Fatima to the Church is also seen in the light of parallels to the ecclesiastical realization of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (as primarily suggested from Paray-le-Monial) and is elucidated as a service for the Church’s knowledge of self in our time.
