Abstract

Manuel Schlögel:
Theology between Adaptation and Resistance
The Reception of Erik Peterson in Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI
(FKTh 2019-3, p. 201–217)

Erik Peterson (1890–1960), the German historian and biblical scholar, is an author, whose work was continuously studied by Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI. for a long time. Peterson’s influence concerns especially Ratzinger's understanding of Church, liturgy and political theology. In Peterson the pope is seeing a critical thinker, who has overcome the modern skepticism about dogma and Church by a new attention on scripture and the church fathers.
