Review on the Life and Work of Fr Erich Przywara S.J.
On the 50th Anniversary of his Death

28 September 2022 will be the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Father Erich Przywara S.J. This important religious philosopher and theologian is to be remembered by taking a look at his life in the first part and at his work in the second part. Several stays in the archives of the Central European Province of the Jesuits in Munich with access to various parts of the rather extensive estate of Father Przywara enable the author to considerably expand the knowledge about his life. Above all, some legends about the Father’s medical history can be falsified. The preparation of a critical biography remains an urgent desideratum of Przywara research. The second part offers an orienting overview of his book publications, which impressively demonstrates the breadth and width of his work. Przywara appears as an interdisciplinary thinker and sovereign humanist. Even if one does not have to agree with all his opinions, studying his works always means an enormous broadening of horizons and lasting stimulation.
