The present scholion proposes a novel hypothesis for the interpretation of the katechon in 2Thess 2,5–7. According to this hypothesis he, who hinders, is the disciple Simon as a human person. That, which hinders, however, is the rock, «Petrus », understood as the office he received from Christ. The historical context of the second letter to the Thessalonians explains out of itself why the interpretation was quickly forgotten and why St. Paul did not enunciate it.
