Freedom, Equality, Fraternity
Social ethical remarks on the secular and Christian interpretation of the concepts
(FKTh 2021-1, p. 27–41)
Pope Francis in his social encyclical “Fratelli tutti’’ makes use of the terms of Enlightenment “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’’, namely liberty, equality, fraternity. The article asks for the original horizon of interpretation in the time of Enlightenment and French revolution and compares this understanding to the vision of Pope Francis. The result shows that there is a greater nearness of “Fratelli tutti” to the traditional social teaching of the Church than to liberal and freemasonic ideas.
