Reflections about Newman’s Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine

John Henry Newman is considered a modern theologian of the 19th century, firmly rooted in tradition. Many groups in the Catholic Church refer to his works, in particular to his Essay on the Development of Christian Doctrine, in order to justify their own position. The aim of this article is to indicate the context of this famous Essay, to outline its essential content, and to briefly point out its lasting relevance in the current challenges.
