Marcion’s influence on Adolf von Harnack’s construction of essence

With his „The Essence of Christianity“ Adolf v. Harnack has presented a work of the century. In it he presents the Reformation faith in justification as the essence of the Gospel. This article asks to what extent his studies on Marcion influence his concept of Christianity, and whether the essence of the Christian religion can only be found in the historical Gospel.
