Abstract

Wolfgang Wünsch:
Christology in the Shadow of a World Star – the Historical Jesus and the Harvest at Hans Küng
(FKTh 2021-4, p. 301–317)

It seems that everything has been said about the Christology of Hans Küng. The gap between “progressive” and “conservative” forces is almost insurmountable, the arguments have been exchanged. Especially his Christology is regarded with good arguments as no longer connectable. On the other hand, the deep anchoring of Küng‘s thought in non-Orthodox, Germanlanguage theological and intellectual history and his immense influence challenge a more intensive debate. From the perspective of a religion-theological analysis of his complete works, the present essay attempts both to critically appreciate essential elements of Hans Küng‘s Christology and to sketch a constructive response to his provocations that leaves behind denominational and church-party narrowness.
