Abstract

Manuel Schlögl:
“Maximus Remains the One I Hold on to”
Maximus Confessor as a Pioneer of a “Theodramatic Theology” in Hans Urs von Balthasar
(FKTh 2024-1, p. 36–49)

With his comprehensive study „Cosmic liturgy“ (first published in 1941), Hans Urs von Balthasar still has a siginificant influence on the patristic theologian Maximus Confessor’s research. But Maximus also shaped Balthasar’s thinking, especially his „theo-dramatic“ view of the history of salvation. As a brave witness to the truth of catholic faith, he served as an existential role model for Balthasar (which is confirmed by a previously unpublished report by the Swiss theologian).
